The building dates from 1890, when it was the home of the Exeter Literary Society, and has been variously occupied by the GPO, Civil Defence, the Tax Office and the Exeter Little Theatre Company.

Foundation Stone laid by John Duke Lord Coleridge, great nephew of Samuel Taylor Coleridge

Now completely independent and run by a charity, The Barnfield plays host to a wide variety of shows, conferences, Mother & Toddler groups, theatre schools and great music. We have a small, dedicated team of staff and volunteers who maintain the building, deliver brochures, serve drinks in the Barnfield Bar, serve snacks and ice creams, meet and greet, man the box office desk and telephone and work hard to make your visit to The Barnfield the most welcoming, friendly and entertaining experience it can be.

The Barnfield Theatre Ltd is a Charitable Company, Limited by Guarantee.
