Devils Paradise

Set against the backdrop of the “Ripper Murders” in the streets of Whitechapel in 1888, Devil’s Paradise is the story of  Mary, a young orphan who has run away from a workhouse childhood to go it alone in the big city. She has the address of the establishment of Madame Ghengis (“The House”) and arrives on the doorstep exhausted, hungry, terrified and fascinated by the characters who greet her. Mary is immediately befriended by Legs, the leader of a band of street-girls controlled by Ghengis and quickly witnesses the cruel treatment by Luke ”Loco” Motif of Ferret his nine year old “apprentice”. Mary is swiftly drawn into the vortex created by the opposing  egos of the black hearted Lord Jack  Darius and the misguided, philanthropic Gabriel Titus as she receives a brief and shocking induction into the ways of “The House”. Mary brings a ray of hope into the girls’ lives and forms a close and touching bond with Legs but she is suddenly horrified by the realization of what she is soon to become and decides to leave and take her chances on her own.

Stephen Holbrook, regarded by many as “Britain’s most gifted spiritualist medium” is having a very busy year!  His 2008 nationwide tour will take him from Glasgow to Falmouth. Using his extraordinary gift, his Evenings of Mediumship & Clairvoyance show that “you cannot die – not for the life of you!”

Always demonstrating to packed theatres and conference venues, his evenings are frequently full of laughter and tears – it’s an emotional roller coaster ride that brings reassurance to thousands and causes many entrenched sceptics to change their views.
